Dear McAuley Families
We begin the process of interviews for enrolments for 2026 this week. At the close of enrolments last week, we had strong interest in all areas of the college and are looking at offering places in Kindergarten and Year 7, 2026. I am always proud to hear of the good reputation for academics and pastoral care that the college has earned in the local community.
As the college now levels out in terms of population and classes, we are conscious as a leadership team to build consistency across all areas of the curriculum. This is particularly important in terms of our behavioural expectations and processes. One area of mention is our Phone Policy Statement of Practice. Let me be clear that Secondary students are directed to place phones in classroom pockets or to leave them in their bags. This also includes ear buds or watches. Students are not to use phones or devices during recess or lunch, or before or after school.
Repeated breaches and failure to comply with a teacher direction will result in the student being directed to take the phone to the office and collected at the end of the day. Parents will be contacted in this regard and are expected to support the processes of the college.
Each year students and families are encouraged to agree to the Catholic Education student acceptable devices, applications and networks policy. This outlines the responsibilities of all parties involved. Our aim is to model and encourage acceptable use and balance the need for communication with a focus on safety, education and wellbeing.
In signing that agreement parents undertake several responsibilities including being “…responsible for supervising student use of digital devices and applications, and internet use while the student is at home…”
We all want to model the safe and appropriate use of social media, and I encourage families to take advantage of the information and advice provided through the website of the e-safety commissioner (www.esafety.gov.au). The webinars and regular newsletter are very valuable. The three key strategies outlined are a great model for families to follow at home.
- Be engaged open and supportive. Reassure your child they can always come to you no matter what. If things are happening online that worry them then talk with them about it.
- Set some rules. Consider a tech family agreement with time limits, rules and consequences.
- Use safety settings and features. Use parental controls. Know what apps your children are using and be aware of their activity on social media.
As parents and educators, we have a role to play in helping our boys and girls navigate the world. These resources are a great support. Please reach out if there is anything I can do to assist your family.
Mary our mother, look after us.

Community Council Update
We know how important it is to keep families informed and supported.
Supporting Student Success Through Open Communication
It is natural for parents to have questions or concerns about their child’s wellbeing or learning at the College. We welcome open communication and are here to support you.
The MCCT Statement of Practice – Complaints document offers helpful guidance for raising and resolving concerns.
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, you contact your child’s classroom or Pastoral Care (PC) teacher as the first point of call.
Did you know we have a School Community Council Charter?
The School Community Council Charter is a guiding framework that outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Council, and the scope within which it operates. The full School Community Council Charter can be found on the MCCT website.
This Charter, the MCCT Statement of Practice – Complaints document and other valuable resources can be found on the MCCT Website: https://mcauleytumut.nsw.edu.au

Year 11, 2026 Information Evening & Subject Expo
We warmly invite all current Year 10 students and their families to attend our Year 11, 2026 Information Evening on Monday 17 June, in the College Hall, starting at 5:00pm.
This important event is a valuable opportunity for students to:
-
Speak with teachers
-
Explore subject options
-
Begin planning their HSC journey with confidence
We strongly encourage all families to attend and take advantage of this chance to gather key information and ask questions.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Stage 6 Students Attend Wagga Tertiary Expo
Our Stage 6 students recently attended the Wagga Tertiary Expo, where they had the valuable opportunity to explore a wide range of post-school options. The event featured representatives from universities, TAFE, the Police and Defence Forces, apprenticeship management groups, performing arts schools, local businesses, and emerging industries.
It was a highly engaging and informative day that helped students consider potential career and study pathways.
We extend our sincere thanks to Regional Industry Education Partnerships (RIEP) for organising the event and generously covering transport costs, ensuring our students could take full advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

Students Complete YES Hair and Beauty Program
Congratulations to Erin, Ella and Pippa, who have successfully completed the YES Intro to Hair and Beauty course at TAFE.
Throughout the program, these students demonstrated enthusiasm, dedication and professionalism, proudly representing our school. We commend them on their commitment to learning and exploring future pathways in the hair and beauty industry.
Well done, girls — a fantastic achievement!
As part of his Year 11 VET Active Volunteering course, Austin completed his required hours by gaining valuable behind-the-scenes experience with a professional sporting organisation. The GIANTS were incredibly appreciative of his support, and Austin thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to be part of such a dynamic team environment.
Well done, Austin! We’re proud of your dedication, enthusiasm, and community spirit.
Ed Smith Heading to the USA for Rodeo Finals
We are incredibly proud to announce that Year 8 student, Ed Smith has been selected to represent Australia as a member of the Year 7–9 High School Rodeo Team at the upcoming National Junior Rodeo Finals in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.
In January this year, Ed travelled to Bendemeer (near Tamworth) to compete in the Australian Junior Rodeo Finals, participating in both Saddle Steer and Bull Riding events. His goal was to place in the top four of his division — a feat he achieved with great success, being named Co-Champion in Bull Riding.
This outstanding result secured Ed a place at the prestigious National Finals, where he will compete against students from across the United States, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand and Australia. The event will run from 22 to 28 June, hosting over 1,200 young rodeo athletes aged 11–14, all showcasing their skills in a range of rodeo disciplines.
Since Bendemeer, Ed has continued training and participating in rodeos to maintain peak form. He and his family will travel to the United States on Monday 16 June, returning on 6 July.
We commend Ed on his dedication, courage and commitment to his sport, and we wish him and his family every success for this exciting international experience.
Well done, Ed — we’ll all be cheering you on from back home!

The week before last, students from both our Secondary and Primary campuses took part in the much-anticipated Annual Athletics Carnival — and what a fantastic couple of days it was!
With clear skies overhead and high spirits all around, the smiles were contagious as students gave their all across a range of events. From sprints to relays, long jump to shot put, the enthusiasm and energy on display made it a carnival to remember.
A very special thank you to Mrs Bathgate for her incredible planning and organisation. Her dedication ensured the event ran smoothly and successfully — we’re so fortunate to have her leading the way.
Congratulations to all students for your participation, effort, and sportsmanship. You should all be very proud!

NSWCCC Cross Country Representation
Congratulations to all our McAuley students who represented the college at the NSWCCC Cross Country in Sydney this week! Mason, Nate, Sydney, Cody, Honey, Cybella, Lacey, Imogen, Sierra, and Alliena – we’re so proud of your determination, effort, and the way you carried yourselves on such a big stage. What a fantastic experience – well done to you all!

A Contemporary Take on Romeo & Juliet
Last week, our Year 9 English students were fortunate to attend a live performance of Romeo & Juliet, presented by the talented team from Mashed Theatre. This innovative production offered a fresh and engaging perspective on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, skilfully blending insightful literary analysis with dynamic live theatre.
The story followed Chloe and Dave, two students working against the clock on a group assignment. Their challenge: to examine and argue the relevance of Romeo & Juliet in today's world. As the two grappled with differing viewpoints, they delved into key scenes from the play—bringing to life Shakespeare’s themes of love, conflict, and fate, and exploring how these ideas still resonate with modern audiences.
This creative adaptation not only entertained but also deepened students' appreciation for Shakespeare’s work. The accompanying Q&A session provided valuable opportunities for discussion and reflection, enriching students’ understanding as they begin their Shakespeare unit this term.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mashed Theatre for their fantastic performance and their commitment to bringing quality educational theatre to rural and regional schools. It was a memorable and inspiring experience for all.

Our Under 15s rugby league team had an outstanding day in Cootamundra, going undefeated in the first round of the Country Cup!
The team showed great determination and skill, securing victories against:
-
West Wyalong High: 18–12
-
Hennessy Catholic College: 22–18
-
Temora High School: 22–4
Their impressive performance sees them through to the Riverina Final in Wagga on 20 June.
Congratulations, boys – a fantastic effort and a well-deserved result!

Rugby Union Fun with the ACT Brumbies
Students had a fantastic time learning new skills, building confidence, and staying active on the field.
A big thank you to Callum for sharing his time, energy, and expertise — we truly appreciate the opportunity!

We are incredibly proud of the compassion and generosity shown by our McAuley community.
Thanks to your kindness, we’ve collected an amazing number of donations – bags and bags of warm clothing, blankets, and other essentials – all to be shared with those in need through the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed. Your support is making a real difference in the lives of others this winter.

Last Friday, our McAuley Chess Team travelled to Wagga High School to compete in Round 3 of the Riverina Interschools Chess Tournament.
The team put in a solid performance, with the final result being a 3–1 loss. Despite the scoreboard, each player displayed outstanding skill, focus, and determination—pushing their opponents right to the end.
Congratulations to Will, Heath, Bhavnik, and Kaden for their great sportsmanship and representation of our College. We are proud of your efforts!

Year 1 - Learning about Rosary Beads
This week, our Year 1 students have been learning about Rosary Beads and how they can be used during prayer to support counting, focus, and reflection.
On Wednesday, students had a wonderful time making their own prayer beads as a hands-on way to deepen their understanding and connection to this special form of prayer. It was a meaningful and creative learning experience for all involved.

Student Voices on the Airwaves
Last week, Charli and Gracie were our fabulous radio announcers, proudly representing McAuley on Sounds of the Mountains.
Each week, members of our Student Representative Council take turns sharing news and stories about life at our College. It’s a wonderful way for students to develop confidence and connect with our wider community.
Tune in every Wednesday from 9:30am to hear what’s happening at McAuley!

When Mrs Piper signed up for the Push-Up Challenge, she didn’t have to go it alone — Year 1 were right there to cheer her on and join in the fun!
Who needs a gym when you’ve got the most enthusiastic support crew around?
Go, Mrs Piper – and go Year 1! What a fantastic display of teamwork, encouragement, and energy.
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Safety Reminder
For the safety of all students, we kindly ask that families use Carey Street only when dropping off and collecting your child(ren). Please avoid parking on Capper Street and crossing the road with your child(ren) during these busy times, as multiple buses are entering and exiting the area.
If you do need to park on Capper Street, we ask that you always use the designated crosswalk to ensure everyone's safety.
Please also remember that parking on nature strips is illegal. Not only can this result in a hefty fine, but it also poses a significant safety risk to our students.
We understand that parking at the Primary Campus can be challenging, and we appreciate your continued patience and understanding. We’re hopeful this will improve with the completion of current building works, which include plans for a dedicated drop-off and pick-up zone at the front of the campus on Capper Street.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation in helping us keep our students safe.
