Dear McAuley families
As many of you will know, I travelled to the United States last week to attend the Digital Learning Conference in Austin, Texas.
Around 2000 attendees took part in the 3 day event which highlighted best practice in virtual learning. I quickly came to understand that millions of students in the US attend school virtually from Kindergarten to Year 12. It was amazing to see the learning and teaching that takes place in the virtual space. The use of virtual reality in the science space is incredible.
It was terrific to be able to to network with leaders and teachers from schools of all sizes and locations (including virtual schools). I came away knowing that even in our early stages we are leading the way at McAuley in virtual learning. Our biology and business studies classes, led by Belinda Schirmer and Heidi Stubbs, are at the fore of lesson delivery and providing subject choice for our year 11 and 12 students and for others in our Archdiocese.
We are also receiving excellent feedback on the work that is happening in our vocational education (VET) area. Our students are achieving outstanding results in their various courses as they progress through their coursework.
Our staff too are working in their own time to enhance their training and qualifications. Congratulations to Cameron Ellison who has received a Certificate III in agriculture. This is a first for our Archdiocese. Jo Dougherty has achieved a Cert I and II in Active Volunteering. These qualifications again are testament to the amazing hard work that is happening across the College in teaching and learning.
Thank you all for your strong and positive family support for us. We are at capacity in all year levels at the College with wait lists in some. These numbers are forming part of an evolving master plan for buildings and facilities which will provide new structures and spaces into the future.
Mary our mother look after us.

1. Wait until the school holidays and then bundle all your shirts together, drop them in to Wendellie (Wynyard St, Tumut) and they‘ll call you when they are ready for your collection.
2. Wendellie are planning on doing a collection of shirts on the 11/3- and subsequently every Monday (except Easter Monday) until the end of term. Shirts will need to be bagged as a family, and dropped into the school office. Bags must be labelled with name and class, so the shirts can be returned. Wendellie are committed to picking the shirts up on Monday, and returning them no later than Tuesday afternoon. So you may need to drop shirts in over a couple of weeks to get all your shirts embroidered. Remember if you use the option, the whole school cannot get all shirts completed on the first Monday. Please take into consideration that our new families to the school (kindergarten, year 7 and all new students) may have no shirts with any logos. So please be patient.
3. You can take them directly to Wendellie, but please bear in mind that Wendellie are committed to our pick up Monday/drop back Tuesday deal, so your shirt may take a little longer if you drop them in on a Monday morning or Tuesday. We hope that with these three options all shirts will be embroidered ready for photos on the 6th May. We hope you are happy with the outcome, we think the Crest looks great. We are also happy that the new crest design will not look vastly different from the old shirts, with the major update being the change of name. The Community Council would like to thank the school community for their patience.
This is just for uniforms without the current Logo/emblem, students can still wear their existing uniform until new ones are needed.
There is no cost for the embroidery as this was covered in the initial purchase price.
Catholic Education distributed Term 1 fee statements to all families last Friday 1st March, they apologise for the delay in sending them out.
Please follow the link below for our 2024 Fee Schedule for you to refer to. Please utilise your BPAY Reference details on your fee statement to make payments.
If you are not paying by the Term and require assistance in calculating your weekly/fortnightly/monthly payments please send an email to tricia.taylor@cg.catholic.edu.au

COMBINED CATHOLIC COLLEGES TOUCH TRIALS
Congratulations to Sierra, Alliena and Cybella Roddy who all trialled for the Canberra Goulburn Wagga combined Archdiocese Touch Football team in Wagga. All girls played extremely well! Congratulations to Alliena who was chosen in the team to compete in the Combined Catholic Colleges touch selection trials.
This year some of our McAuley primary classes entered decorated in the prestigious decorated pumpkin section at the Tumut show. Ms Place and the students in Library decorated an amazing butternut bee to take out the winning prize. Kinder created a 'Bogtrotter' Queensland blue and received second place. 5/6 classes created 'Dory', a rocket ship and 'Rivet Boy' bridge to receive highly commended awards. We hope you enjoyed out school display presenting McAuley then and now along with some student artworks.
Our radio presenters this week were Aylah and Isabella. Tune into 96.3 Sounds of the Mountains every Wednesday at 9.30am for all the latest news from McAuley.
Our beautiful Year 4 students enjoyed visiting the Blakeney Lodge residents on Wednesday. They loved listening to their interesting stories about their childhoods. It was lovely to be able to visit again.
In Week 4 the Year 11 Biology students used cake decorating materials to make a 3D representation the fluid mosaic model of a cell membrane.
McAuley participated in the Soccer Gala Day hosted by the Tumut Eagles on Thursday. All students from year 3 to year 6 took part. This gala day was about participation. The emphasis was about exercise and fun, not winning. This was also an opportunity to introduce soccer to boys and girls who may not have had the opportunity to play before.
A huge thank you to our senior students who volunteered to coach and help out on the day.
