PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear McAuley families

As many of you will know, I travelled to the United States last week to attend the Digital Learning Conference in Austin, Texas.

Around 2000 attendees took part in the 3 day event which highlighted best practice in virtual learning. I quickly came to understand that millions of students in the US attend school virtually from Kindergarten to Year 12.  It was amazing to see the learning and teaching that takes place in the virtual space. The use of virtual reality in the science space is incredible.

It was terrific to be able to to network with leaders and teachers from schools of all sizes and locations (including virtual schools).  I came away knowing that even in our early stages we are leading the way at McAuley in virtual learning. Our biology and business studies classes, led by Belinda Schirmer and Heidi Stubbs, are at the fore of lesson delivery and providing subject choice for our year 11 and 12 students and for others in our Archdiocese.

We are also receiving excellent feedback on the work that is happening in our vocational education (VET) area. Our students are achieving outstanding results in their various courses as they progress through their coursework.

Our staff too are working in their own time to enhance their training and qualifications. Congratulations to Cameron Ellison who has received a Certificate III in agriculture. This is a first for our Archdiocese. Jo Dougherty has achieved a Cert I and II in Active Volunteering. These qualifications again are testament to the amazing hard work that is happening across the College in teaching and learning.

Thank you all for your strong and positive family support for us. We are at capacity in all year levels at the College with wait lists in some. These numbers are forming part of an evolving master plan for buildings and facilities which will provide new structures and spaces into the future.

Mary our mother look after us.
