Dear McAuley Families
Welcome back to Term 4. Slowly but surely we are returning to something like a normal school operation. Sadly we continue to be required to enforce physical distancing and cancel a number of activities and excursions. We are working to try to modify Term 4 programs and provide some sort of experiences for our students who have endured many disappointments over the last two years. Thank you to our staff who continue to work enormously hard to make our curriculum available and interesting. I continue to marvel at their flexibility and sheer grit as we plough through another period of uncertainty and separation.
Building Project: Exciting news is that we are signing off on the Primary BGA project in the coming days. That means our Year 5/6 students will be able to move into the renovated spaces for the remainder of this year. The rooms are big, bright and welcoming and will provide fantastic environments for our students to work and learn together. Thank you to all who have waited so patiently for this work to be completed. Shane and his team at Crossbuild have been fantastic and have been able to keep working under many COVID restrictions and material supply issues. We are very grateful for Government Funding and support from Catholic Education for completing this first stage of the project.
In the coming weeks the team will move to the Secondary Campus and begin work on renovations to Rooms 1-4 and the Central Courtyard. During December the Admin Building roof will be replaced also as part of the contribution of funds by Catholic Education. Exciting times for us all as we work to further enhance the excellent learning that happens at McAuley.
Year 5/6 moved into the new building today and thank you Father George for blessing the rooms.
Welcome back: A special welcome back to Fran Clarke and Poss Hughes who have returned to work this term after their medical leave. I know both Fran and Poss are very grateful for the enormous support they received during their time away. It’s lovely to have them back. Please continue to pray for our beautiful Libby McGruer who is on medical leave this term.
New School Signage: Thanks to our Community Council who supported the installation of our very modern electronic sign which was installed during the break. Please remember that our communication strategy remains that any important information is emailed to you directly. Social Media and the electronic sign are utilised for general and social announcements and reminders.
Staffing/Enrolments 2022: As we continue to plan for next year I remind you that we have places available for enrolments in Kindergarten and Year 7, 2022. There are also places available in other year levels. Please highlight to local families the strong community and excellent results we work to provide here and encourage those seeking a quality Catholic Education to make an enquiry.
We will also be advertising for teaching positions for next year in the Primary School due to some planned changes. Again, please encourage any good quality teachers to consider joining our fabulous team. Advertisements will placed locally and online in the coming days.
Masks: In the last few days there has been some confusion about mask wearing requirements. To clarify:
- Staff must wear masks indoors and outdoors
- Students Year 7 and above must wear masks indoors and are recommended to wear masks outdoors

School Fee Remissions Term 4: We have been advised that there will be the opportunity to access fee remissions in Term 4 if your family has been financially impacted by COVID 19 closure or loss of income. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need any further information or support.

Compass Parent Portal - Term 4
Compass is now our main platform for communication, we are asking ALL families to please download the app onto your smartphones.
It is important to note that when you are searching for our school, after typing McAuley in the search bar, you need to scroll down and select McAuley Catholic Central School - Tumut.
From this semester, school reports will be received via Compass. Unless requested, you will not receive a hard copy of your child’s semester report.
We appreciate your support in making Compass a success for everyone!

The Western Region and Archdiocesan Athletics carnivals were both cancelled due to Covid, however we haven't let this stop our talented athletes being recognised. All results were imputed into the computer to hold a 'Virtual Carnival' and we had some great results.
The following students were selected into the Western Region Team:
Alexandra Crowe, Sophie Garner, Paige Kelly, Ava Lindley, Joey Parry, Chloe Pearce, Joe Pearce, Jasper Plum-Bocking, Taylor Kelly, Sophie Webb, Macy White and Loudes Canteros Paz.
From this team the following students placed in the top three at the Archdiocesan Athletics Carnival:
Paige Kelly - 3rd Junior Girls Long Jump
Taylor Kelly - 2nd Senior Girls Shot Put
Ava Lindley - 1st Senior Girls Long Jump
Alex Crowe - 1st Senior Girls High Jump
Macy White - 1st Senior Girls 800m, 3rd High Jump, Shot Put, Long Jump
Taylor, Alex, Ava and Macy were named in the Canberra and Goulburn Athletics Merit team. Macy was also crowned Canberra Goulburn Senior Girls Age Champion, congratulations Macy!
Fingers crossed we will be back on the real track in 2022.
SECONDARY
As a result of the Arch Athletics being cancelled a virtual Arch Athletics was organised where the students times/ distances from the school carnival were entered by McAuley. Congratulations to all students who participated. A special mention to

Congratulations to our Bronze Award recipients who have received 10 Mercy Awards for displaying our Mercy Values. Well done to Elise, Eva, Gershom, Isabelle, Lachlan, Lara, Max and Franz.
As the excursions to Canberra and Pambula have been cancelled all money paid for the excursion will be credited to family school fees.This credit will show on your next Fee Statement which will be emailed out to families next week.
Fletcher McKay and Alexander Torio represented McAuley at the Western Region Public Speaking Competition today, Friday 15th October. Due to COVID restrictions the competition was held via a TEAMS meeting.
Fletcher's topic was 'If I was an animal I would....' Fletcher used excellent structure and humour to convince the audience how great it would be to be a pig. His timing and presentation of the topic was very engaging.
Xander's topic was 'The best invention ever is ....' and he also convinced the audience that the best invention ever is the computer. He also used excellent structure, and humour to entertain the audience. His timing and engagement with the audience were also excellent.
Unfortunately, neither of the boys progressed to the Arch-diocese level but we are extremely proud of their effort. They were very grateful for the opportunity to represent McAuley and are looking forward to next year's topics.

There has been a reported case of head lice on the Primary Campus. Please be vigilant and check your child's hair and use the proper treatment process if necessary.
2022 school travel applications are now open
Students who require a travel pass for 2022 can apply now. A new application will need to be submitted if they are applying for a school travel pass for the first time, or if they are requesting an additional travel entitlement as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody).
Students who change address, school, campus location, or who have repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details before the end of term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications and current entitlements are updated and remain valid.
If a student’s distance eligibility has changed based on their grade the system will automatically update their entitlement if they meet the new criteria. If they do not meet the new eligibility criteria, they will receive an expiry notification via email. Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition that is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply. Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
Students living in rural and regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the start of the new school year from their nominated transport operator. It may come via the school or be sent directly to them at home. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
School Student Transport Scheme site change - On 1 October 2021 the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) information and application portal was moved to transportnsw.info. This will assist families to find all their travel information in the one place.
Travel from Term 1 2022
We ask that parents plan ahead and make sure their child knows which service/s to use and has a valid ticket to travel; a School Travel Pass from the start of the school year.
Applications for the School Student Transport Scheme (SSTS) open at the start of Term 4 2021 for travel in 2022, so parents/students can apply or update details early and be ready for the start of the new school year.
Parents should contact their local bus operator to discuss their travel needs. Bus operators are flexible and understanding, particularly at the start of the school
year, and will ensure students can travel safely to and from school. But to best support our operators we encourage all students to have a valid ticket, as early as possible, from the start of the school year.
