Dear McAuley Families
We continue interviews for enrolments for 2026. As we have strong interest in Kindergarten 2026, we will open another round of advertising after the holiday break. Please let family and friends know to be on the lookout for open afternoons and tours of our new facilities which might encourage more applications for Kindergarten next year.
We are anxiously awaiting the Certificate of Occupancy to be able to begin the move into our beautiful new spaces. The build team and architects have worked so well to design and create attractive, light, bright and flexible learning spaces. New student facilities will feature both privacy and supervision access with rainwater collected from our roof to use for toilets. Air circulation and ionisation will feature throughout the buildings to encourage energy efficiency and comfort.
The staff will enjoy spaces that are comfortable and private, and visitors will be made welcome in our new administration and reception. Colours and shapes reflect our natural environment and the previous design of our buildings.
This is such an exciting time in the history of the college and I look forward to being able to share these spaces with you all.
Let’s hope that all the approvals will be smooth and we can begin moving into our new spaces to close out another busy and productive term.

Semester reports will be released on Friday 27 June and opportunities for parent teacher interviews will be announced also.
Please enjoy the winter break and thank you, as always for your trust in the college to work in partnership with you in educating your children.
Mary our mother, look after us.

At McAuley Catholic College, we believe in preparing our students for life beyond the classroom. This week, 33 of our Year 10 students took an important step toward their future careers by participating in a week-long Work Experience program.

Congratulations to all the Year 10 students for embracing this opportunity with enthusiasm and maturity—we’re incredibly proud of your efforts!
Despite the rain, Therry House Day was a resounding success! Students and staff embraced the theme by dressing in anything beginning with “T” or in Therry green—from Teachers and Teletubbies to TimTams and Taylor Swifts—filling the school with creativity and house spirit.
Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we exceeded our fundraising goal and will fully fund the construction of a wheelchair through Wheelchairs for Kids, founded by Brother Thomas Oliver Pickett AM.
To celebrate outstanding enthusiasm, trophies were awarded to the “Most Spirited” student in each year level. Congratulations to all our spirited winners—and to everyone who helped make Therry House Day so meaningful!

High Impact Teaching Practice
As you may be aware, CE is committed through its Catalyst program, to improving student learning through evidence based-teaching practice (HITP). Teachers at McAuley have been trained and are coached to implement HITP to deliver excellent learning opportunities for our students.
What is High Impact Teaching Practice?
HITP includes:
- High expectations
- Explicit teaching
- Specific lesson structure
- Review practice
- Student engagement
HITP is effective in improving student learning and performance as it is aligned with the Science of Learning and how the brain processes and stores information.
You may have heard your child/ren talk about using mini whiteboards, STAR strategies and daily reviews. This is all part of our HITP practice. Students are encouraged, through a range of strategies to actively participate in lessons, be attentive and review content previously taught. Our students at McAuley are champions of engagement and teachers are reporting great improvement in student learning as a result of the High Impact Teaching Practices.
So maybe ask your child about how they are engaged and participate in lessons, how they review and practice skills and how they show they are being attentive.
We think they are amazing!
Megan Turnbull - HITP Instructional Coach

Celebrating Student Success in PAT Assessments
Recently, our Years 1–10 students took part in the PAT Mathematics tests, while those in Years 2–10 completed the PAT Reading assessment. These computer-adaptive, Australian norm-referenced tools help teachers identify individual strengths and areas for growth, inform classroom strategies and build a comprehensive picture of student progress alongside NAPLAN, DIBELS, InitialLit and class-based assessments.
This week we celebrated every student’s effort by presenting certificates for their achievements in both Mathematics and Reading. It’s wonderful to see our McAuley motto—Believe, Strive, Achieve—so clearly reflected in their hard work and growth. Congratulations to all our learners on their success!
Girls Rugby 7s Gala Day Champions
Our Girls Rugby 7s squad put in a stellar performance at the Gala Day, finishing the tournament undefeated and bringing home the shield! They kicked off with a commanding 12–0 victory over Wagga Wagga Christian College, demonstrating strong defence and slick handling right from the whistle. In their second match they maintained the momentum with a 17–5 win against Murrumburrah, before edging out Temora 17–12 in a thrilling semi-final that saw some brilliant try-saving tackles and smart support play.
That set the stage for an all-or-nothing Grand Final against Young, where our girls dug deep and sealed a hard-fought 15–10 triumph. Throughout the day they showed exceptional grit, teamwork and sportsmanship, and their confidence grew with each match. Congratulations to every player and coaches for this fantastic achievement – your dedication and McAuley spirit have made us all incredibly proud!
Country Cup Rugby League Success
Last week, our McAuley Rugby League team travelled to Wagga to compete in the Country Cup — and what a day it was! The boys came out strong with impressive wins over Xavier College and Yanco before facing a tough final match against Kildare. Finishing as runners-up in the Riverina is an outstanding achievement and a testament to their hard work and talent.
We are incredibly proud of the pride, determination, and sportsmanship the team displayed throughout the day. Well done, boys!
Western Region Athletics Carnival Update
Our students gave it their all at the Western Region Athletics Carnival last week, showing incredible determination, sportsmanship, and McAuley spirit throughout the day!
We’re excited to share that several students have qualified for the next level of competition — an outstanding effort! Official results will be shared as soon as they’re available. Well done to all our athletes for representing McAuley with pride.

A huge congratulations to Kruz, who has been crowned the Western Region Athletics Intermediate Boys Champion!
This is an incredible achievement and a true reflection of Kruz’s dedication and athletic talent. Well done, Kruz — you’ve made McAuley proud!
Year 11, 2026 Information Night
Last Tuesday, we welcomed our Year 10 students and their families to the College Hall for the Year 11, 2026 Information Night.
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to connect with our Stage 6 teachers and coordinators, explore subject choices, and gain valuable insights into HSC preparation and future career pathways.
The presentations were informative and professional, and the subject booths provided practical and engaging advice for both students and parents.
We’ve already received such positive feedback — it’s wonderful to see our students feeling inspired and excited as they begin planning the next stage of their learning journey.
Year 2 Visit to Blakeney Lodge
Last week, our Year 2 students enjoyed a heartwarming visit to Blakeney Lodge, spending time with the residents and listening to their wonderful stories.
Each Wednesday, a class from McAuley visits the Lodge as part of our ongoing connection with the local community. These visits are a highlight for both our students and the residents, fostering friendships, sharing memories, and bringing smiles all around.
We’re proud to be part of such a meaningful initiative that strengthens the bonds between generations.

Year 3 Reconciliation Ceremony

Last week, our Year 3 students gathered to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation — a beautiful and meaningful occasion for both students and their families.
We extend our sincere thanks to Fr Xavier for leading the liturgy and guiding the students through this special moment. A heartfelt thank you also goes to our parents and caregivers for their ongoing support and preparation throughout the term. Your role in nurturing the children’s faith journey is deeply appreciated.
We are incredibly proud of our students and congratulate them on this important milestone in their spiritual development.

Year 3 have been having a blast exploring the wonders of static electricity! Using balloons, students investigated how static charge works and experimented with different types of paper to see what would move.
It’s been a hands-on, engaging experience filled with curiosity, laughter, and lots of learning — a great way to bring science to life in the classroom!

Year 4 Science: Exploring Forces Through Flight
This term, Year 4 students have been investigating forces, with a particular focus on gravity and aerodynamics. As part of their studies, they explored the principles that enable aircraft to fly, then designed and constructed a variety of paper plane models. The culminating challenge saw each student testing their design to determine which plane flew the furthest, bringing their theoretical learning to life through hands-on experimentation.
Year 4 Games Afternoon Celebration
To mark the end of a successful term of learning, Year 4 students came together for a relaxed games afternoon. They enjoyed a variety of board games and card challenges, sharing plenty of laughter and friendly competition. It was a wonderful way to celebrate their achievements and unwind before the break.

Primary Public Speaking Competition
We had a fantastic morning at McAuley last Tuesday, warmly welcoming students, staff, and families from St Patrick’s Primary, Gundagai for the Public Speaking Competition.
All students spoke beautifully, exploring a range of thought-provoking topics such as “If animals could talk, what would they say?” and “What mistakes teach us.”
Congratulations to our winners — Alfie, Billy and Emmett — who will now go on to represent us at the Western Region Speaking Competition!
A special thank you to our volunteer judges, Trish, Emma, and Tony, for their time and thoughtful feedback.
Well done to all participants from both schools — you made us proud! And thank you to Mrs Baron and the team from St Patrick’s for being such wonderful guests.
We’re excited to invite all K–6 students to our upcoming Disco on Friday, 27 June, from 4:00–5:30pm in the College Hall!
This fun-filled afternoon is not just about dancing and enjoying music with friends — it's also for a great cause. All funds raised will go towards purchasing new balls for the Primary Campus, making recess and lunch even more active and enjoyable!
We can’t wait to see our students on the dance floor, supporting their school and having a fantastic time.
