Dear McAuley Families
I often believe that our communities and our college are at their best in times of sadness and grief. This week we offer prayers to a Year 10 student and her family on the loss of their father and husband.
For all of us death brings emotions and questions that may surprise us. To be able to answer the questions of our children is hard, balancing honesty with empathy. For all of us it is hard to know the “right” words to say.
“Be You” (https://beyou.edu.au/) have some excellent resources to help us answer questions and frame responses. At all times we need to try to be empathetic, as honest as we can and encourage seeking expert help if you need it. It’s a great thing to do something practical to help. It’s also really helpful to get moving and boost our endorphins whilst avoiding social media with it’s often poor and incorrect advice.
Most important is to get back to “normal”. Without in any way minimising loss the routines of school and life can bring comfort. Highlighting the good parts of the day and bringing back “sameness” can assist us all with moving on.
As a Catholic College we are sustained by prayer. There is a great strength to be gained in praying for other people, in recognizing their own loss and grief. In many cases these occasions remind us of a time of loss or grief and can make things very raw again. Take care, rely on others and know that you have practical support and care always.
Let’s remember the practical lines of our College prayer in saying… “Please help all of us at McAuley to show care and concern for one another.”
This week I spent attending HSC analysis in Canberra and Principals Retreat and System Day in Bowral. This is an excellent time to join with Principals from the Archdiocese and share our common joys and frustrations. It was also very enjoyable to be able to meet the new Executive Director David De Cavahlo and promote to him the outstanding work that is happening in our College in Tumut NSW.
Please take good care of one another.
Mary our mother look after us.

This week our students took part in a Mercy Meal. This special fundraiser offers a meaningful way to reflect on the challenges faced by millions living in poverty. A simple bowl of boiled rice was served, symbolising solidarity with those who have little. All proceeds will go towards Project Compassion, supporting Caritas Australia’s mission to empower vulnerable people and their communities. By sharing in this simple meal, we embrace the values of mercy, justice, and love, turning our Lenten sacrifice into a powerful force for good.

Year 11 Health and Movement Science are loving being in the new T10 classroom. It is a wonderful space for senior classes with excellent resources and provides a learning environment for students to strive to achieve their best.
Every year, the Primary Campus enters the 'Best Dressed Pumpkin' competition at the Tumut Show. Each class gets a pumpkin to get creative and decorate!
Here are some pictures of Patrisha, Juno and Alfie painting the Year 2 pumpkin. Students were very excited as they designed an Indigenous painting for the pumpkin. Patrisha was so kind and brought with her some resources to show us some design and symbols we could use. They used some symbols that we thought were relevant to Tumut and McAuley. There is a river, stars and people sitting together with a range of dot designs.
All of the children were proud of their design. It's not easy painting a pumpkin either!

The day before the show, we took our pumpkins down and set up a display of them together with some artworks we've been creating.

And the winner is.... 5/6 White and Mrs Brown!

Year 9 girls, Annabell and Matilda created this awesome art work for the Ag Vegetable display for the Tumut show.
Congratulations to all our swimmers who competed at the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn Secondary Swimming Championships in Queanbeyan on Tuesday. A special congratulations also to Age Champions and record breakers: Chloe Pearce, Ashton Ambrose & Russell Guppy as well as the Junior Girls for winning their relay!

It's officially autumn now but the sun is definitely still shining! Monday was a lovely warm day - perfect for having fun and playing with friends on the Primary Campus.

Stage 2 students had the privilege of Aunty Sue visiting yesterday. She discussed the Wiradjuri language with the students and the influence of the Wiradjuri culture on Tumut. Thank you Aunty Sue for taking the time to share with us.
WESTERN REGION SWIMMING CARNIVAL

We have ceilings, we have walls, we have windows!! Move in date is feeling closer and closer......

CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE - MS PIPER
Last week the school supported Ms Piper to attend a conference in Sydney with teachers from all over the state to discuss assessment and changes to Stage 6 and the HSC, ready for the new syllabus next year. It was a great opportunity to share strategies and resources with other teachers and also attend the annual HSC marking feedback day. She was able to bring back lots of great ideas to implement in our classrooms.
The EverWear Program is all about giving clothing a second life while supporting local families.
We’re starting with pre-loved/outgrown daycare & school uniforms, offering an affordable way for parents to keep up with growing kids.
McAuley has jouned up with the EverWear Program and will be a drop off point for any donations.
If you have any pre-loved school uniforms to donate, you can now drop them off at the Primary Campus office.
