I write with pride our first newsletter officially as McAuley Catholic College Tumut. This year is a historic one as we realise the long-held ambition of becoming a K-12 College. Our students have returned, and the community is demonstrating its confidence in us with strong enrolments across the College. We are at capacity in ALL year levels with wait lists in some.
Your children will come home and talk to you about our new crest. The symbols on our crest are representative of our Mercy values and origins as well as the beautiful natural landscape we are blessed with.
Our Community Council are working with Wendellie to sort new embroidery and logos. We are happy to wait till this is done well and I know they will advise you when stitching can be completed. We are also working to re-brand our signs, website and online presence as quickly as we can.
I was proud to pray with our staff at our Commissioning Liturgy last Wednesday. We welcome seven new teachers to the College in both Primary and Secondary positions for this year. Welcome to our new staff:
Mark Harmer (Assistant Principal – Primary)
Erin Kingwill
Michelle Hillier
Judy Sarton
Robyn Ryan
Katie Campbell
Katie Haley
Our enrolment this week is around 460 students K-12. Welcome especially to our new families from Kindergarten right through to Year 12. I know that your sons and daughters will thrive here as one of us and will experience first class academic and pastoral care.
Last week, the staff undertook professional learning around high impact teaching strategies, behaviour expectations (curriculum) as well as administration and planning. We look forward to a productive and exciting year.
During the break we worked to have 4 new modular classrooms installed behind the McAuley Hall. Ramps and decking and path connections are complete. We hope to have ICT and power fully connected by mid next week. I apologise for the delay. We had worked right through January to be ready but supply issues and timings went against us.
Due to the heat, we will not be timetabling classes into these areas until they are fully operational.
Please always remember that education is a partnership between home and family. Our values, customs, expectations and practices align to nurture and encourage our sons and daughters to be the best possible versions of themselves.
I will refer often to our college Motto – Believe, Strive and Achieve. These key verbs give us powerful actions on which to build our goals and to make excellent progress as we embark on a truly historical year in the history of the College.
Please take the time to get to know your children’s teachers and share in the excitement of the adventure that lies ahead.
Our boys and girls will be weary these next few days. Please allow some good time to settle. Encourage good organisation, get to know timetables and set routines. All these actions will lower anxiety and help us all feel organised, safe and exited about what is to come.
Please be sure that your details are correct in Compass so that you will receive notifications about events, excursions and camps that are coming soon.
Mary our mother, look after us.
Eamonn Moore
Principal
And just like that, kinder 2024 have begun their McAuley journey. Our 26 little people are a wonderful bunch of 'busy bees', who enjoyed a great first day with Miss Groves and Ms Blundell. Thanks to families for sharing them with us, we look forward to all of the fun kinder has to offer over the coming year.
KINDER, YEAR 1 AND 2 SWIMMING CARNIVAL
Our infants students had a fun day at their swimming carnival yesterday. A big thank you to our senior students who helped out on the day.

Students in Years K-12 met with Annette from the Amie St Clair Melanoma Trust yesterday to discuss how we could be more sunsafe.
Amie St Clair Melanoma Trust was formed by Annette and Peter St Clair in 2010, in honour of their daughter Amie, who passed away from melanoma when she was just 23 years old. Annette and Peter wanted to make a difference by raising awareness of melanoma.

There is more to getting good sleep than you think!
Did you know that breathing has a lot to do with good sleep? Our face and neck muscles have a significant impact on the development of face bones. How our muscles and bones move when we are relaxed (sleeping) impacts how well we breathe. We’re hosting Sharon Moore. Sharon will lead us through – what good sleep is, what impacts it, what to look for and how to get good sleep. Join us – it’s in two week! On Eventbrite ? Sleep isn’t a luxury – it’s an essential foundation for a child’s physical mental emotional and social development. If your kids aren’t getting the sleep they need, they may struggle to catch up for years to come. In our session with Sharon Moore, Sleep-Wrecked Kids, discover how to help your kids grow and thrive by getting the sleep they need. The science shows us that many kids are suffering needlessly; in fact, 40% of four to ten-year-old kids have sleep problems, about half of those have sleep breathing problems, and none of the consequences are good! 80% of kids with these problems are completely missed. What you'll learn from Sleep-Wrecked Kids The good sleep formula: the ultimate goal Discover what good sleep actually looks like, including the recommended hours for different ages and what to expect in terms of quality and your child’s development as a result. You’ll also discover what bad sleep looks like, including common sleep disorders Simple environment and routine changes to help your kids sleep If your kids are struggling with disordered sleep, there’s good news. Simply changing your child’s physical environment, emotional environment and routines throughout the day and night may be enough to have them sleeping through the night. Discover how to address sleep-disordered breathing, even before your kids are born! It’s not just all about routine and environment. Your child’s airway has a big impact on sleep quality. Even mild forms of sleep disordered breathing can have a big impact on sleep quality. Learn how myofunctional therapy can help improve airway and breathing. About Sharon Sharon believes there has never been a more important time for medical, dental and allied health colleagues to work as a team, with the significant consequences of sleep disorders in all ages now widely known. She is the author of Sleep Wrecked Kids.
Bookings on Eventbrite $79+GST a ticket The session will be recorded. Participants will have access for 30 days. |
