FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Term 1 is certainly in the throws of business. Classrooms are buzzing, teachers are busy and students are learning. Households have hopefully settled back into the 'school routine.' Last Friday McAuley successfully hosted the Western Region Swimming Carnival, where the 11 other schools in our western area joined us for a day of competitive swimming. The day ran smoothly largely due to a wonderful band of organisers and helpers. Lyn Bathgate and Maree Stewart organised the carnival in conjunction with the Tumut Pool Manager, Narelle Buckingham. A huge thank you for the many hours they spent in the carnival organisation.
Congratulations to our Year 10 students who worked tirelessly all day, helping with timekeeping, recording results, ensuring staff and parents were fed and watered and marshalling the swimmers. Each and every one of these students were a credit to our school.
Thank you also to our McAuley Community Council who ran a BBQ breakfast and lunch. It was greatly appreciated by parents and teachers who had travelled long distances. Thank you to Tumut Swimming Club for allowing the school to use their BBQ.
On Friday evening a group of very tired Year 7 students returned to Tumut after participating in a 2 day Orientation Camp at Borambola. This was a wonderful opportunity for these students to bond as a cohort and to make new friends in an environment away from school. Thank you to Miss Mason for her organisation and to Mrs Dumbrell, Mr Hughes and Mrs Piper for supervising the students.
Mr Little is currently taking some unexpected personal leave and will be away from McAuley for the next fortnight. I will be Acting Principal during this time. Mr David Turnbull will be Acting Assistant Principal and Mrs Jeanette Dumbrell Acting Secondary Coordinator. We thank you for your anticipated support.
The first Community Council meeting for 2019 will be TODAY Thursday 21st February at 5.00pm in the secondary staffroom. We welcome any parents to come along and be part of the council. There are a variety of ways, big and small, that you can be involved in your child's/children's education.
Wishing everyone a happy week. I hope to see many of you at our first school-based Parish Mass this Saturday at 6pm which will be presented by our Student Leaders.
