FROM THE ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents,

As you are aware our principal, Mr Rodney Little has resigned from his position at the end of this year. Mr Little has been principal of McAuley for the past 8 years. I am sure you join with me in wishing him and his family all the very best for their future.

Some of our secondary students recently participated in the Australian Geography Competition. We are very proud to announce some outstanding results which are highlighted further in this newsletter. A special mention to Year 10 student, Jordan Sanbrook who received a High Distinction -  top 1% in Australia. An amazing result.

Peer Support lessons have commenced this week for primary students. The focus of the lessons is values. All Year 6 students are enjoying being group leaders and are learning the skills of leadership and management during these lessons. It is also an opportunity for K-6 students to mix and work with students they would normally not get the opportunity to. We are looking forward to developing these new positive relationships throughout the term.

Primary students are proudly showcasing their written work this week in St Mary’s Hall with the  ‘Awesome Authors’ Celebration. The celebration will run from Wednesday to Friday. Parents and friends are asked to come along and view the students work and to comment on the wonderful writing and publication. Definitely not a celebration to be missed.  Thank you to Mrs Liz Boxall for coordinating this event and to the teachers and students for all their preparation.

Our annual Book Week celebrations and parade will take place the week of 19th-23rd August. Students are asked to dress up in either a ‘Super hero’ costume or as their favourite book character. The students will visit Blakeney Lodge on Tuesday 20th August at 11.30am with a parade for McAuley parents and friends to follow, starting at 12 noon on the school oval. We would love to see you all there.

Unfortunately, this time of year brings a lot of sickness.  A large number of Influenza A cases have been reported to McAuley. Students are typically coming down with a headache, sore throat and high temperatures, possibly turning into vomiting. In this case a visit to the doctor is required to be tested and possible medication given. Students are to remain at home until the course of medication is finished. We ask for your support in regard to this please.

We are looking forward to sharing another busy term with you all.

- Kerrin Henderson.
