Last Wednesday, our Primary students took part in the annual National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) event, hosted by the Australian Library and Information Association. Each year, a picture book by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in schools, libraries, early learning centres, and bookshops across the country.

This year’s book, Truck Cat by Deborah Frenkel, was live-streamed at 12 noon, read aloud by the author herself. Our students joined in from their classrooms, enjoying the story and participating in a range of engaging follow-up activities. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Australian literature and the joy of shared reading.

Truck Cat is a heartwarming tale of cats and humans, immigration and identity, and the meaning of home. It follows Tinka and his human, Yacoub, as they journey far and wide, both searching for a sense of belonging. When they are unexpectedly separated, their determination to reunite leads them on a touching and meaningful adventure.

We’re thrilled to now have this beautiful hardcover book available in all classroom libraries, ready for students to enjoy again and again.
