YEAR 5/6 CANBERRA EXCURSION

Our students have had a very busy day on the first day of their Canberra excursion.
They’ve visited the War Memorial, Old Parliament House and then enjoyed some fun at Questacon.
Day 2 - Year 5/6 visited the AIS and saw some of the training areas. They were lucky enough to watch some volleyball players as well as Australian no.1 women's gymnast Georgia Godwin working on her bar routine. Then they had some time trying their own athletic abilities in an interactive area.
They were so impressed to see Australia's original constitution at the National Archives of Australia! Year 5/6 even had a chance to take the original dictation tests for immigrants when there was a law to restrict immigrants entering Australia (it was very hard!).
They also visited the National Art Gallery, Australian Museum and went bowling.
Day 3 - Our 5/6 students visited Parliament House. They were fortunate enough to visit both the Senate and House of Representatives chambers and see parliament in session. Our local member Kristy McBain came and spoke to us about our electorate and her job.

The excursion was partialy funded by PACER. The Parliamentary and Civics Education Rebate is an Australian Government initiative that provides financial assistance to support students' on-site learning about national democratic, historical and cultural institutions in Canberra, the nation's capital.

Each student received a $30 rebate.
